SONG OF THE YEAR
WAM Song of the Year is an annual songwriting competition that promotes emerging and established artists to encourage audiences to celebrate WA talent.
The Song of the Year competition is assessed by a distinguished panel of experienced local and national industry professionals, offering songwriters a rare and valuable chance to have their music heard and celebrated.
The winners of the Song of the Year Competition are unveiled at the highly anticipated awards night in front of a live audience.
On the night, selected artists join the list of esteemed winners of this 30 year old competition, including Stella Donnelly, Kučka, Little Birdy, Abbe May, The Waifs, and South Summit.

You will be asked to set up an account in Submittable, once you do this you will be taken to the entry form.
If you are submitting more than one entry, you will need to complete a separate entry form each time.
Please note – there is a limit of 3 entries per act or 5 entries of WAM Members.

No, you can enter unreleased songs, including demos and phone recordings. Song of the Year is based on songwriting, not the quality of the recording.
All entries will be judged by panels of industry judges who are independent of WAM.
WAM will conduct an eligibility check of all entries prior to judging. Categories that receive a high volume of entries may be assessed over two rounds.
The winners of each category will then go to a separate judging panel to determine the overall winners of the competition.
Non WAM Members may submit up to 3 entries total across all categories.
If you enter more than 1 song into 1 category, only the top-rated song will be eligible for nomination.
The free categories (Song for Sophie and Outstanding Indigenous) are strictly limited to 1 entry per artist/act.
Each category winner will receive a $500 cash prize.
The Song for Sophie Recipient will receive a $2500 cash prize and 4 mentoring sessions with Noah Dillon.
The Over All competition winners will receive the following prizes:
Second Runner Up – $1000
Runner Up – $2000
Grand Prize Winner – $3000
Genre categories – $30
U18’s and Regional – $15
Healthway Feel It Write It- $10
Song for Sophie and Indigenous – Free (limit of 1 song per artist/band)

If your song has co-writers or is subject to a publishing or other rights agreement, you must notify all relevant parties that the song is being entered and obtain any necessary permissions. Any prizes awarded must be shared and distributed in accordance with existing agreements between songwriters and rights holders.
Artists and songwriters are encouraged to nominate songs in the genres they believe most represents the music they have created.
Categories with specific eligibly requirements include:
Outstanding Indigenous: open to the artists who have identified themselves as Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander songwriters during the entry process.. For acts with two or more members, at least 50% of the songwriters for each song entered must identify as indigenous to be eligible for this category.
Outstanding Regional: is open to all WA songwriters outside of the Perth metro. For acts with two or more members, at least 50% of the songwriters for each song entered must have been based in regional WA for the majority of 2025-26 to be eligible for this category.
Song for Sophie: is open to emerging artists aged 25 and under. Note: ALL songwriters must be 25 and under.
