Song of the Year Entries Now Open!

West Australian Music (WAM) are thrilled to announce that entries for the annual Song
of the Year competition presented by Healthway are now open!

Entries are open to WA songwriters and artists of all ages and levels, who have
written or released a song between March 2025 and February 2026.

The Song of the Year Awards have been a stepping stone for many of West Australia’s
biggest artists, including Abbe May, Little Birdy and Stella Donnelly.

There are 17 categories to enter this year, including special categories to celebrate First
Nations, regional, and under-18 songwriters.

“These awards are an important moment in time to highlight the incredible music that is
created in our state every single year. Last year we saw the emergence of a new
generation of young songwriters who took the awards by strong, can’t wait to see what
comes next in this year’s submissions” WAM CEO, Owen Whittle.

We are excited to announce a new category for 2026: Healthway Feel It Write It. WAM
has been working with Healthway to support the emotional wellbeing of young people
through the arts. This partnership draws on SEW–Arts, an arts driven framework
developed by The Kids Research Institute Australia and funded by Healthway.

The Healthway Feel It Write It category aims to celebrate music that embraces
emotional expression through songwriting. Entries will be assessed on how strongly
song lyrics align with the ‘Feeling’ element of the SEW–Arts Framework.

‘Song for Sophie’ Award.
Developed in honour of local music enthusiast and artist Sophie Smith, this award is
possible thanks to the Sophie Smith Fund, held with the Fremantle Foundation. The
winner will receive a cash prize of $2500 and an exclusive mentoring program with the
local artist Noah Dillon.

Click the link below to enter today! Entries strictly close March 3, at 9am.
