PROMOTION OF WA MUSIC

WA Gig Guide & Fresh Picks Playlist

Last year WAM launched the WA Gig Guide in collaboration with Giglist. The Gig Guide delivers a streamlined way to discover live music happening across Western Australia making it easier to find shows, venues and emerging artists in one place. It raises awareness of live gigs and creates a state‑wide platform to boost discoverability, especially for independent or regionally‑based acts. The WA Gig Guide nicely complements WAM’s other programs, such as the annual WA Music Week, by improving visibility for live events and supporting the live‑music ecosystem.

The WAM Fresh Picks playlist showcases the latest music releases from Western Australia. Updated weekly, it features tracks released within the past six weeks. Artists can submit their songs by emailing admin@wam.org.au or clicking the button below!

SONG OF THE YEAR

WAM Song of the Year is an annual songwriting competition that promotes emerging and established artists to encourage audiences to celebrate WA talent.

The Song of the Year competition is assessed by a distinguished panel of experienced local and national industry professionals, offering songwriters a rare and valuable chance to have their music heard and celebrated.

Winners for each category receive a cash prize and studio time donated by generous local sponsors. Grand prize winners also win additional prizes including cash, industry perks, promotion packages, discounts, and much more.

The winners of the Song of the Year Competition are unveiled at the highly anticipated awards night at Freo.Social in front of a live audience.

On the night, selected artists join the list of esteemed winners of this 30 year old competition, including Stella Donnelly, Kučka, Little Birdy, Abbe May, The Waifs, and South Summit.

NEW NOISE SCHOOLS PROGRAM

The New Noise program forms part of WAM’s audience development initiatives targeted at encouraging young people in metropolitan and regional areas to engage with contemporary music.

The program is presented in partnership with Healthway and promotes social and emotional wellbeing. The program sees WA musicians visit metropolitan and regional primary and high schools to conduct songwriting workshops and work through a series of positive, inclusive, and engaging workshop materials.

WAM AWARDS

Celebrating excellence within the WA music community.

The WAM Awards are a prestigious, long-running annual program that aims to recognise the achievements of local artists and industry.

Highly-regarded across the sector, the awards serve as a promotional tool for introducing audiences to the year’s most exciting and outstanding music and the people that create it.

REGIONAL YOUTH MUSIC PROGRAM

In 2025, WAM launched the Regional Youth Music Program, a free after-school music program designed for young people aged 12–18 living in regional Western Australia.

This initiative provides a safe, inclusive, and supportive space for young people to connect with others, explore their creativity, and build skills in music. This program has been thoughtfully designed with the help and input of participants from WAM’s Regional Roundtable meetings in 2023 and 2024.

The program wraps up with a live performance, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their growth and the music they’ve created throughout the term..
