Perth, Australia – On Saturday, October 5, 2024, Perth will host an unprecedented event aimed at revolutionising the independent music industry—Hack The Pack! This one-day hackathon, organised by The Pack Music Co-operative, will bring together some of the brightest minds in music, marketing, and technology to tackle one of the industry’s most pressing challenges and create innovative solutions for the future of music streaming.
Hack The Pack! is more than just a hackathon; it’s a collaborative movement. Featuring a stellar lineup of cross-industry mentors, including Justin Davies, Hayley Ayres, Melanie Anastas, Charlie Gunningham, Kylana McIntosh, and Donna Edwards, the event promises a dynamic day of creativity, collaboration, and innovation. Participants will work side-by-side with experts to reshape how music is produced, distributed, and consumed in local communities.
Hosted at the Claisebrook Design Community, the event will run from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, culminating in the Pack Patron’s Karaoke Night—a fun and informal gathering where participants can unwind, showcase their vocal talents, and continue networking in a relaxed setting.
Why Hack The Pack! Matters
The Pack Music Co-operative was founded by local, unsigned musicians who identified the need for a fair and sustainable music streaming service that prioritises community over corporate interests. With global streaming platforms like Spotify increasingly disadvantaging independent artists—recently stopping royalty payments for over 70% of the artists on their platform entirely—the time for change is now.
The goal of Hack The Pack! is to co-create a community-owned and community-driven music streaming platform that supports local musicians and connects them with local businesses and listeners. This localised, co-operative approach is designed to keep revenue within the community, offer musicians meaningful exposure, and promote a thriving local arts scene.
Fundraising Campaign with the Australian Cultural Fund
Hack The Pack! is part of a larger fundraising campaign in partnership with the Australian Cultural Fund (ACF). This campaign aims to raise essential funds to develop and launch the community-driven streaming platform that will empower local artists and reshape the music industry. The funds raised will go directly towards the platform’s development, marketing, and support for independent musicians, building a streaming service that ensure they receive fair compensation and greater visibility. Every donation makes a difference in bringing this vision to life.
