A WAYJO Pathways Program for genders on the outskirts of Jazz
New name, same great program! After feedback from our members, consultation with gender diverse individuals and much consideration, we have refreshed the name of our much loved and long running Pathways Program ‘Young Women in Jazz’, to PROGRESSIONS. This new name reflects the inclusive values of WAYJO as an organisation and expands access to those genders often on the outskirts of jazz.
PROGRESSIONS caters for female and non-binary identifying instrumentalists who would like to learn more about jazz and improvised music, perform live at a professional Jazz Club, and work with some of Australia’s leading female jazz professionals.
We are delighted to celebrate PROGRESSIONS 10-year anniversary this year! Run in Perth since 2014, over the last decade these workshops have seen countless young female and non-binary musicians build support networks, refine their skills, and increase confidence.
DEVELOP the skills and confidence of young female and non-binary musicians in jazz and improvised instrumental music.
BROADEN knowledge of jazz and improvised music.
INCREASE awareness of career options in jazz and related areas.
ENCOURAGE students to understand audition processes and apply for tertiary jazz courses.
NURTURE and foster friendships, ensembles and support networks among female jazz musicians.
With workshops at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), guest artists, alumnae tutors, and the opportunity to perform live in concert, PROGRESSIONS is a great opportunity to explore this exciting art form.
And for the first time in its decade long history, the 2024 cohort will have the opportunity to learn from and perform with world renown trumpet player, Chloe Rowlands! The New York based trumpeter, who is in Australia for the very first time will be working with the PROGRESSIONS participants. Each of the Progressions ensembles will perform classic jazz repertoire as well as original music from Chloe.
This one is not to be missed!
