WAM secures significant Government Funding and embarks on new strategic direction

West Australian Music (WAM) today announced that it has secured significant government funding through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. The funding, amounting to $500,000 per year for the next two years, marks a pivotal moment for WAM as it embarks on a comprehensive new strategy and organisational reshaping.

After undergoing a rigorous process of review and engagement, WAM is set to implement a new strategy aimed at revitalising the organisation and positioning it to better serve the music industry. The recent years have presented numerous challenges for the industry, and WAM is committed to emerging “fit for purpose” to build capacity and capability, contributing meaningfully and delivering impact at scale. This will be achieved by working closely with industry, government, and critical partners and stakeholders.

WAM Board President, Al Taylor, remarked on the funding and the new strategy, saying, “This funding underscores the crucial role that WAM plays in supporting and nurturing the Western Australian music industry. It marks the first significant step in our new strategy, which will see WAM not only reshape but transform, making meaningful contributions to the industry and the broader Western Australian cultural landscape. We are looking forward to sharing more on the strategy over the coming months.

In a significant leadership transition, WAM also announced the resignation of its current Executive Director, Livia Carre. A recruitment campaign will soon commence to secure a new CEO who will lead WAM into this exciting new chapter.

Al Taylor expressed gratitude for Liv Carre’s contributions, saying, “Liv’s passion and dedication have been invaluable to WAM. Under her leadership, we have navigated some of the most challenging times in our history. We are deeply grateful for her service and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

The West Australian music scene has garnered an enviable reputation nationally and internationally for nurturing and generating some of the most important and influential artists in the world. WAM is poised to continue this legacy with renewed vigour, and a new strategic direction.
