Shannon Smith Shares Stories, Struggles and Songs at “Out of the Shadows” Album Launch

Fremantle-based singer-songwriter Shannon Smith is set to release his debut album Out of the Shadows on Friday, May 2, 2025, and he’s inviting the WA music community to celebrate with him at a one-night-only launch event at Lyrics Underground in Perth.

This album has been years in the making—a deeply personal collection of songs shaped by vulnerability, growth, and the messy beauty of real life. Out of the Shadows blends soul-pop, folk-rock, and Americana influences with heartfelt storytelling and an honest approach that many will find instantly relatable.

Recorded at Sundown Studios with the support of a stellar creative team—including Helen Townsend, Elliott Smith, Phil Richardson, and Ben Franz—the album captures the emotional highs and lows of stepping into the light after difficult chapters.

The launch follows a string of quiet but meaningful achievements for Smith, including taking home Emerging Artist and Video Clip of the Year at the 2025 WA Country Music Awards. While accolades are appreciated, Shannon is quick to point out that this night isn’t about prestige—it’s about people.

“At the end of the day, I just want to fill the room with good souls and share the songs that I wrote to help get me through,” says Shannon. “It’s not a commercial thing. It’s personal. And I hope people walk away feeling a bit more connected, a bit more seen.”
