Winner Reveal – Song of the Year 2024

After the eagerly anticipated live awards night at Freo.Social, West Australian Music (WAM) are delighted to announce the winners of the 2024 WAM Song of the Year competition presented by Act Belong Commit & Healthway. This exciting mix of emerging and established artists echo the diversity and talent within the West Australian contemporary music scene and demonstrates why we’re so incredibly proud of it.

Taking out the coveted overall grand prize was Rein Mali ft CHISEKO with their song Game of Love, a song that “has taken the Australian R&B scene by storm. Boasting 11 Spotify editorial placements and receiving airplay on esteemed platforms like Triple J and CADA Radio.” With a highly anticipated third single to be released soon and exciting projects on the horizon, taking out the prestigious grand prize is a well-deserved accolade to reflect his rising success.

Joan and The Giants were declared runner up for their ‘Rock’ category winning song, Born in the Wrong Time and ‘Folk’ category winner Good News Now We Can Eat All the Vampires were announced as second runner up for their song, The Miner.

The winner of the ‘Act Belong Commit’ category this year was Sofia Gale, with her song “Laugh.” Sofia, a 16-year-old singer-songwriter from Perth, has previously received three nominations for the WAM Song of the Year awards, winning the ‘Schools 14 Under’ category in 2023.

Healthway Chief Executive Officer Colin Smith congratulated Sofia for being recognised again with an award, this time winning the Act Belong Commit category.

“Thank you for your uplifting song that inspires us all to look after our own mental health and wellbeing,” he said.

“Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, and to WAM for organising such a great event that supports and encourages the music community to look out for their own and others’ mental wellbeing,” he said.

Healthway is proud to partner with WAM to promote the Act Belong Commit health message.

The 2024 Song of the Year live event featured performances by nominees Boox Kid, Claudia Tripp, Drea, LUCI and MAGE, delivering a dynamic and diverse performance program befitting of this big celebration of WA songwriting talent.
