WHEATBELT TOURING CIRCUIT: Tour 10 – The Primary Collective, Polly Medlen

23 May

JUNE TOUR SEES WHEATBELT WAMBASSADORS TOUR EDITION AND SERIES CLOSER!

This edition of WAM’s Wheatbelt Touring Circuit will celebrate the 2016/2017 series coming to an end with an all-star Wheatbelt artist line-up. This tour will see some of the finest local musicians from the Wheatbelt, as well as several Wheatbelt WAMbassadors. The WAMbassadors initiative recently produced a video, receiving over 20,000 views, featuring the WAMbassadors promoting road safety messages, a collaborative production with partners RAC. This tour will close off the program, showcasing the immense talent found in the region.

Continuing our partnership with RAC, and with support from the Department of Culture and the Arts, Royalties For Regions and Country Arts WA, WAM’s Wheatbelt Touring Circuit Tour 10 will roll into Quindanning on Thursday 15 June, Northam Friday 16 and finish in Merredin for the final show of the series on Saturday 17 June.

The tour will see all dates headlined by rock outfit The Primary Collective (featuring Wheatbelt WAMbassador Jayden Crook) plus the indie-pop/alt-country sounds of WAMbassador Polly Medlen. Across the venues, Wheatbelt acts will also support the local headliners, including Russell & Tom and Refractory Road.

The Wheatbelt Touring Circuit is a rare program that sees free entry performances in traditional pub venues, community rec centres and clubs throughout the Wheatbelt region, with a vast array of talented upcoming and established acts from the Wheatbelt.

The Wheatbelt WAMbassadors initiative also involves select musicians from across the Wheatbelt region engaging with communities during the Wheatbelt Touring Circuit series. The WAMbassadors’ role is to assist the Wheatbelt music networks and audiences to establish financially viable regional tour circuits, all the while creating long-lasting community impacts, including promoting the road safety campaign from RAC.

RAC General Manager Corporate Affairs Will Golsby said the WAMbassadors are engaging with the community to raise awareness about the devastating impact of road trauma in the Wheatbelt and to help save lives and prevent serious injuries.

“The Wheatbelt’s road toll doubled from 14 in 2015 to 28 fatalities last year, which is a tragedy not only for families but for the entire community,” Mr Golsby said. “It’s more important than ever that people take responsibility behind the wheel, given 65 per cent of Wheatbelt crashes can be attributed to deliberate driver choices, such as speed, drink driving and inattention.”

SELECT ARTIST BIOS (IN BRIEF)

more-info-6THE PRIMARY COLLECTIVE (feat JAYDEN CROOK): Jayden has played at the Guilford Heritage Festival, at venues throughout the Wheatbelt and opened for country musician Adam Brand. All the while, Jayden was quietly writing his own music, which he was encouraged to share through WAM’s regional programs. He now also leads The Primary Collective. Jayden is passionate about live gigs and the work WAM is doing to develop regional music scenes, meaning he jumped at the opportunity to become a WAMbassador.

more-info-6POLLY MEDLEN: Polly Medlen has plenty of experience on the live music circuit in Perth and throughout regional WA, her band lining up with favourites Abbe May and Ruby Boots and supporting acts like Kasey Chambers and Troy Cassar-Daley. Polly Medlen has also enjoyed multiple wins in the WAM Song Of The Year awards in the Country category and a WAMi nomination for Country Artist of the Year. For Polly, becoming a WAMbassador was a natural choice given her passionate belief in the importance of the Wheatbelt Touring Circuit and RAC’s road safety messages. Losing friends and family to road trauma is a nightmare that Polly has lived through. She says the loss to families and the community causes hurt for years after the event but it’s something that should, and can, be avoided.

more-info-6RUSSELL & TOM: Guided towards each other through local musicians in recent years, these two certified Narrogin funny guys have previously had their own individual achievements and success with their music. Russell placed 1st Runner up in the inaugural X-Factor series in 2005 and Tom was awarded 1st place in the Telstra Road to Discovery of the Darwin Heat in the Northern Territory. With their powers combined, they’re a force to be listened to!

more-info-6REFRACTORY ROAD: Influenced by classic rock and blues, Refractory Road present an acoustic guitar driven sound with big, clear, clean vocals. A local Northam band comprised of six members brought together in the last 18 months from various cover bands, they consist of vocals, guitars, keyboard, drums, bass, harmonica and more.
