WAM FESTIVAL 2016: Last chance for showcase, Kiss My WAMi and design applications!

Calling all talented folk who want to help set WA alight with the sound of super fine music! We’re seeking stellar acts, Kiss My WAMi submissions, graphic designers and more to help us ensure this year’s WAM Festival once again has people extolling it to be “the best ever!” Expanding to four days and seeing over 10,000 punters, 166 acts and 64 conference speakers taking part in celebrating all facets of WA music in spectacular style, it wasn’t surprising last year’s #WAMFest was awarded WA’s ‘Best Festival’ award by national media The Au Review. This year, we’re planning to take 2016’s good times to an even higher level on Thursday 3 – Sunday 6 November 2016 . And we’d like you to be part of it and take advantage of a number of opportunities to make your mark


ith the mission of evolving the festival to achieve even more exciting celebrations of WA music in his final year as WAM Festival Coordinator, Greg Sanders is currently seeking a mix of diverse talent to showcase at the festival’s many events, from free public events like the Saturday Spectacular and Block Party to industry-focused showcases and ticketed ones. Please note we’re at this point only seeking applications from acts that have a release planned for the months leading up to the WAM Festival (now until November 3) . These releases can be in the form of a single, video, album, EP or similar release, but you must have concrete plans to launch it in the lead-up so we know you’ll be an act with momentum, helping attract bookers, label reps and other music industry speakers from around the world to check out your act.

We’re seeking acts across all genres; from world to hip hop, funk, jazz, live electronic, hardcore, urban rock and way beyond.

One of the most unique, quality music compilations in the country, each year Kiss My WAMi compiles a selection of tracks released by WA artists from the previous twelve months, which is then distributed to radio, media, music industry, WA Music Conference delegates and music lovers nationally to highlight some of the incredible array of talent from some of the most isolated regions in the world.

We’re now searching for songs released after 1 October 2015. Unreleased material is fine if the release is scheduled before late October, when we will be releasing it.

WAM Festival Friday Showcases have recently become another of the WAM Festival highlights to look forward to, a series of free and ticketed (or all free for #WAConf ticket holders), genre or theme-specific showcases spanning across Perth’s inner city suburbs. Presented in conjunction with some of WA’s best promoters and organisations, the program is already looking chocabloc with goodness covering a heap of genres. There’s room to add a few more though, so if you are planning something for Friday 4 November and want to take advantage of the WAM Festival’s marketing push and national industry interest, please contact [email protected] with details of your event ASAP.


WAM is seeking expressions of interest for a Graphic Designer to help create a strong, consistent visual profile for two projects: WAM Festival 2016 and WAM Song Of The Year. You would need to be available on a part-time basis (working from your office) ASAP, with the contract awarded to a designer for both events to help achieve brand consistency.

As well as a fee to cover both projects, we’ll provide a number of incentives, including promotion of your business to highly engaged potential clients across WAM’s channels, VIP Access to all WAM Festival, Song Of The Year events and general WAM events and programs for the next year. The intention is also to find a designer to partner with across WAM’s diverse projects and events, potentially leading to further contracts and brand design work.

We are not looking for full design pitches, but rather a concept pitch focusing on only WAM Festival, including providing:

  • Approx 500 words outlining your potential direction/s for the artwork
  • A few simple examples to illustrate this
  • Examples of your previous relevant work
  • Your total fee for both WAM Festival and Song Of The Year ((maximum $6,600 inclusive of GST, and please note we’re only accepting pitches from designers that we can contract for both programs)
