WAM’S AGM THIS WEDNESDAY!

You’re invited to help shape the future of WA music, at WAM’s Annual General Meeting. This Wednesday 24 May at 5:30pm the doors will open, with the meeting commencing sharply at 6pm, at the Rooftop Terrace Bar, Universal Bar, 211 William Street, Northbridge. It’s open to any interested music lovers, however you need to have been a financial WAM Member for at least one month prior to the AGM for your vote on AGM business and election of board members to be eligible.

OWN YOUR WORDS CAMPAIGN

Own Your Words is a campaign has been created by Colosoul Group Inc., in partnership with Grill’d Healthy Burgers to empower the voice of the youth. The competition involves young people aged 13-25 answering one of four questions in twenty-five words or less: What matters to you?, What is the most important thing you’ve learned?, What does the world need?, What is the best thing in life?
The top entry will receive a $50 Grill’d voucher, and nine other runner-ups will receive one free burger voucher each, entries close May 31.

ROADIE SHINES SPOT LIGHT ON THE PATH TO SUCCESS

Kalgoorlie born and Perth based entrepreneur Jared Nelson, 35, is looking to give back what he has learnt to the job seeking community through Behind the Wall. The vision behind the business is to give participants of training courses the current essential skills and knowledge to be able to approach employers with the confidence that they can be a helpful assistant and learn more on the job. Courses are now open.

REGIONAL ARTS FUNDING INFO

A couple of our lovely Country Arts WA people are heading up to the Pilbara and Gascoyne at the end of the month to help out! They will be in Carnarvon 29 May, Exmouth 30 May, and Karratha 1 June! They’ll be up there to chat all things arts, with a focus on sharing information on all the arts funding that’s available for your next awesome project or strategy. CREATIVE EDUCATORS’ NETWORK MEETING

Air Nightclub  in Perth’s CBD is looking for a Social Media and Marketing Manager. The job entails creating and implementing marketing communications strategies to engage with their  target market through social media.

PROGRAM COORDINATOR FOR CATCH MUSIC

Catch Music is a non-profit organisation that runs community music activities across Perth enabling people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to come together and play music. The Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all Catch Music activities at a hands-on, operational level.  The role is autonomous with strong support and guidance from the Catch Music Board. Applications close at 5pm Monday 28 May.

Independent publishing house Mysteria Maxima Media is asking you to submit photography of WA bands to be featured in their second issue of Mysteria Maxima Magazine.The images will be used in conjunction with a selection of lyrics by the band as well as a blurb on the band and photographer. NATIONAL LIVE MUSIC AWARDS 2017 APPLICATIONS

The National Live Music Awards applications are open, offering a chance for artists, venues and events to connect with judges and put themselves forward for consideration for the 2017 awards. Artists will be able to connect NLMA’s Judges via a new form on the NLMA website, which encourages artists to provide live videos as well as information on upcoming shows that judges may be able to attend. Applications close Monday 31 July.

LIFE IN PICTURES SHORT FILM COMP

Show off your music recording and mastering for movie skills and submit a two-minute film for the Life in Pictures short film competition. Life in Pictures is open to individuals and organisations in three age categories (under 17, 18-59, & 60 and over), with a total prize pool valued at up to $20,000. Applications close Wednesday 31 May.

MUSIC MATTERS 2017 SHOWCASE IN SINGAPORE: ARTIST APPLICATIONS OPEN

Applications are now open for the 12th Annual Music Matters Live in Singapore, Asia Pacific’s entertainment industry gateway taking place September 9-13, 2017. Applications close Friday 26 May.

UNSIGNED ONLY MUSIC COMPETITION

Unsigned Only is designed for solo artists, bands, and singers all over the world who are looking for exposure, recognition, and a chance to be noticed by industry professionals. The Grand Prize Winner will be awarded $20,000 in cash and one-on-one mentoring by an elite group of record company executives. All prizes are listed on the Prize page.

 CHASS AUSTRALIA PRIZES

Nominations are currently open for the 2017 CHASS Australia Distinctive Work Prize, which is for an exceptional artistic performance, exhibition, film, television show, play, composition or practical contribution to arts policy in 2016. This cash prize of $3,500 is being sponsored by Routledge. The nominated work must have some relevance to Australian cultural and intellectual life. Nominations will close at 5pm on 30 June.

IMPROV PROGRAM & WORKSHOP

Tura’s iMprov program aims to assist in the development of new and emerging improvisational artists. Once a month on a Monday, the iMprov series presents experimental and exploratory improvisation at bar Four5Nine at the Rosemount Hotel. The program also provides a monthly workshop for improvisers to work alongside local, national and international mentors who specialize in the field of improvised music performance.

DCA GRANTS PROGRAM

The new DCA Grants Program has been changed, now allowing for individuals, groups and arts organisations to apply for different types of funding in five categories including Creative Development, Commercial Development, Community Engagement, Aboriginal Arts, and Scholarship and Fellowships. DCA encourages all applicants to ensure their applications are in alignment with all criteria and to read all applicant resources.

STATE VOLUNTEERING CONFERENCE REGIONAL GRANTS

COMMUNITY RADIO & TV IS YOU COMP
The Community Broadcasting Foundation aka CBF have opened their Community Radio & TV is YOU – Photo Competition 2017. Win up to $1,000 CASH! PLUS, winning images are featured in the CBF Annual Report, online and promoted to the media.  There is a $500 station prize too! The theme?  YOU – the people of community radio and TV. There are two categories:

GENDER IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY SURVEY
A survey is being conducted by an honors student in Adelaide. and are conducting research into how people working in the music industry in Australia experience and perceive the effect of gender. Participants must be 18 and over, live in Australia and have worked, or been working in the music industry for 5 years or more. WANMA PORTAL
The Western Australian New Music Archive is an interactive web portal presenting a collection of content related to the history of new music in Western Australia. You will find a range of material here including audio and video recordings, images, and a range of documents. The original collection has been drawn from the Tura and ABC Classic FM archives, but it is hoped that the collection will be added to through the participation of those involved in the new music scene in Western Australia. They’re also looking for WA releases to be added.

BUILDING BETTER REGIONS FUND – NOW OPEN
Building Better Regions Fund supports the Australian Government’s commitment to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future. The program will run over four years from 2016-17 to 2019-20.

There are two streams of funding available under the program:
INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS STREAM– The minimum grant amount is $20,000 and the maximum grant amount is $10 million. You must complete your project by 31 December 2019.

COMMUNITY INVESTMENTS STREAM – The minimum grant amount is $5,000 and the maximum grant amount is $10 million, however given the nature of eligible projects we expect most grants will be under $100,000.
You must complete your project within 12 months of executing the grant agreement with the Commonwealth and by 31 December 2019.

CITY OF JOONDALUP $10,000 GRANT ROUNDS 
The Arts Development Scheme closing dates for 2017. The aim of the scheme is to bring professional performing arts companies and artists into the City of Joondalup. Funding is available to professional performing arts organizations in Western Australia to develop an audience base in the northern metropolitan area of Perth. They are looking for exciting interdisciplinary projects to bring into Joondalup!

REV UP
Rev is calling out to WA musicians to come forward with music meets film ideas for possible presentation at the July 2017 event – which is incidentally celebrating its 20th anniversary. Rev has a long history in presenting high-quality music/film concepts from Goblin Plays Suspiria, to Siouxsie and the Banshees’ Steven Severin to Phillip Johnston playing Melies to Viola Dana playing Buster Keaton to Sonic Youth’s Lee Renaldo’s own brand of performance. If you have an idea we’d love to hear it – whether it be moving image art based experimentation.

Would you like to be interviewed for an innovative PhD project about music making and consuming within rural spaces? Are you involved in or know about a rural based music scene?
