Funding announced for Girls Rock! WA program

30 Jan

WA’s Minister for Culture and the Arts, David Templeman announced a funding injection of $70,000 from the Contemporary Music Fund has been set aside explicitly for the Girls Rock! WA camp presented by WAM.

The Girls Rock! WA program’s main objective is to empower female, trans and non binary youth through music, to which Templeman agrees, “It’s focused on giving young people an opportunity to share, be mentored, to express themselves and work creatively in a supportive and safe environment to explore their own creative interests and talents.” Templeman stresses the importance of ensuring a strong representation of musicians and music professionals from Aboriginal, regional, and cultural and gender diverse backgrounds.

The Government’s newly launched Contemporary Music Fund is designed to assist homegrown contemporary music artists with projects that enable them to produce and promote their work, nationally and internationally. The program provides funding support to the WA contemporary music sector across a range of activities, including the WAM presented Girls Rock! WA program.
