Calling on all school-aged rappers, songwriters and DJs, WAM and City of Perth have teamed up to offer a series of free hip-hop workshops these school holidays, perfect to take your kids to and pick up some mad skills!

Following a wicked first session for teens, this Tuesday will see tweensters aged 8-12 years engage with active local hip-hop artists, explore the creative process around songwriting and production, get to grips with the skill of emceeing, and meet likeminded individuals.

The workshops will be facilitated by local WAMAwards winning rapper/producer Mathas (Tom Mathieson). Known for his dynamic, engaging and socially conscious music, positive energy and comedic tendencies, Mathas’ critically acclaimed sophomore record Armwrestling Atlas was nominated for Australian Music Prize in 2015.

Joining Mathas is local female rapper/producer Hyclass (Susan Tuialii), sharing her soulful, melodic hip-hop and relatable storytelling. She is a commanding performer and more recently has lent her skills to performing with the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra for a showcase collaboration with the Fringe Festival and Fremantle Winter Festival.

The final incredible workshop will take place on Tuesday 3 October (for 8-12 year olds).

They take place in the Northbridge Piazza Community Room from 11am – 2pm. And what’s better than working with Perth’s most promising MCs? They are FREE for school-aged participants.
