The Tour Score: How to tour successfully in regional WA, the east coast and beyond!Have you ever wondered what touring opportunities exist in regional WA? Or do you hope to plan a future national or international tour but don’t know where to start? This third installment of the FREE Music Industry Sundowner Series (MISS) is here to tell you everything you ever wanted to know about how to plan and run a successful regional, national or international tour.
Presented by WAM and APRA AMCOS on Wednesday 28 September at Babushka Leederville, you will gain insights and expert touring tips from local musos and tour managers, featuring Sara McPherson (Rag n’ Bone), Nigel Bird (WAM) and session moderator Pat McLaughlin (APRA AMCOS / Sugar Army).PANELLISTS:
Sara McPherson (Bassist, Rag n’ Bone):
Growing up playing bass in bands during her school years, Sara went on to study music at WAAPA where she met the members of her current band, Rag n’ Bone. Since graduating, Sara has had a range of diverse experiences as a bassist in Perth. From teaching classroom music, touring regionally, playing corporate events, and now as a member of two-time WAM Song Of The Year Award winners Rag n’ Bone. Earlier this year Sara and the band played Rock À La Buse Festival in Réunion Island and will be playing a string of shows in Singapore & China in September, including Music Matters and Concrete & Grass Festival.
The Regional Officer for WAM since 2003, in this position Nigel has toured contemporary music artists from Nungarin to Newman and from Broome to Bencubbin. Including regional touring circuit development projects specific to the Wheatbelt and Pilbara regions of WA. Further knowledge about regional WA has come through completing specific contemporary music skills development projects and workshops in every major centre, in every region of WA.
After playing his first ‘pub gig’ in 1994, Nigel has remained active as a performing artist in predominantly self-managed bands. A wealth of personal experience has been derived from touring nationally with two different acts and specifically in WA, with multiple others, performing in small venues to playing on national festival stages.
Our moderator for this session is Patrick McLaughlin, vocalist and co-writer for three-piece pop/rock outfit, Sugar Army. The band has toured Australia nationally with their own headline shows, in support of Gyroscope, Karnivool and Shihad, and opened the main stage of the Big Day Out national tour in 2010. They have also played shows in Japan and have recently released their third full-length album.
