So #WAMFest’s media partners are pretty fantastic. Supporting WA music with incredible coverage, these are just some of the last few days’ highlights that will help you hit #WAMFest in the finest possible way; with the insider’s knowledge on some of the best acts and shows to catch and tell yo’ mates about, because you’ll be in the know… Apart from pulling off a music fan miracle in style by bringing back print with The Music Perth (on the streets now), they’ve also interviewed a ridic large number of the acts playing the fest, to help you pick and choose. Plus hilair answers to boot.

Pilerats Honestly, we don’t think we’ve ever seen such a superb rundown of acts to catch at #SatSpec listed in chronological order, with preview tunes to nod to. The tastemakers choices are about as choice as you can get, so pay attention.

RTRFM With their epic #CourtyardClub kicking off with a WAM special tonight (FREE ENTRY!), RTRFM have been spinning our #KissMyWAMi CD all this wk as their Feature Album, plus they had a heap of interviews, many of them posted on their website.

Featuring an epic selection of 80+ acts; Saturday Spectacular returns for 2016 to proving to be WA’s biggest and best, completely FREE celebreation of live, original, homegrwon music. Being held across 11 venues throughout Northbridge, starting from 4pm and continuing well into the night. WAM spoke to a number of  acts performing across the night including Pat Mclaughlin from Sugar Army, Nelson Mondlane from Pow! Negro… and Tobacco Rat about the their recent achievements, #WAMFest highlights (including #FridayShowcases#WAMCon and #SundayBest), and more…


PLUS, providing plenty of opportunities for music lovers to wrap their ears around some WAMAwards topping sounds, a number of the winners will take part in the 100% free Saturday Spectacular, happening as part of WAMFest on Saturday 5 November at 11 venues in Northbridge. These include POW Negro (Most Popular New and Most Popular Live Act), Verge Collection (Best EP), Jacob Diamond (Best Male Vocalist), Lucy Peach (Best Folk Act), Mathas (Best Urban Act, tying with Koi Child) and Scalphunter (Best Punk/Hardcore Act). Plus Sophie Hopes from Tired Lion (Best Rock Act) will be DJing the Badlands Bar #SatSpec after party, presented by, and Best Label Pilerats are throwing the other official after party in style at Jack Rabbit Slim’s – both free entry with #BlockParty wristbands.

Mixing certifiable gold class acts with the hottest up’n’comers across countless genres, it’s testament to WA being one of the world’s most exciting hotbeds for musical talent, with acts there for you to discover for free. Best of all, you’re encouraged to roam between all 11 venues from 4PM til midnight!!



With around 5,000 people through the doors last year (photo above of Tired Lion at last year’s event, by Rachael Barrett), the unbeatable Block Party will see a huge carpark transformed with beachside umbrellas, a free photo booth, food trucks (including Rancho Sombrero, El Aleman Loco, Pash Pops) seating, shade, merch tables, the Drug Aware chillout zone and festoon lighting, for the ultimate, boutique celebration of WA music.

It will also play host to way too many talented acts currently riding a wave of hype, including psych-grunge rockers
Hideous Sun Demon, rock mainstays Sugar Army and up-and-comers Verge Collection, all of whom have just released piping hot new music over the last two months. We’ll also bear witness to #WAMSOTY winner Beni Bjah; local hip hop collective Premiss (featuring Coin Banks, Marksman Lloyd, Alex Ford, Hyclass and more); a master of verse in multi-award winning Mathas; a blistering performance by Big Splash champs POW Negro and many more, plus the Pilerats DJs keeping the MAX vibes flowing between live sets.





 How to top off the biggest day in local music? With the finest after parties, of course! When the WAMFest Saturday Spectacular finishes at midnight, keep the party rolling into the early hours of Sunday at the official #SatSpec after parties in two of Perth’s best venues!
