WA has a long standing reputation when it comes to contemporary music. Contemporary music is one of the most important cultural identifiers that WA has, and it makes our city more vibrant, more beautiful, more livable. And yet, Perth is still a very isolated city. In a crowded market place, being heard and noticed above the many other people making noise in this country is one of the biggest challenges facing emerging artists today.

This is where WAM comes in.

We have the knowledge, expertise and connections to guide WA artists through to the next stages of their careers. We do this primarily through our artist development program, which includes a series of workshops on contemporary issues facing musical artists today, arming them with the tips, tricks and information they need to break free of the noise.

By making a donation to West Australian Music, you will play a vital role in their future success, and strengthen the position of all West Australian artists.

WAM’s Higher Note workshop program has been created to assist musicians in the earlier stages of their careers, offering unprecedented access to career advice and networking opportunities with some of Australia’s most experienced industry representatives.

“As a regional artist, the opportunity to be a part of Higher Note really reminded how important it is to be part of a community.  In its simplest form, WAM is the perfect conduit to making that community real. Higher Note is a fantastic mirror and health check, giving the artist or manager permission to be objective about the work they do and how to do it better.” – Chris Edmondson, Albany
