COVID-19 RESPONSE UPDATES
Tuesday 14 April 2020
Over the previous week, we’ve been continuing our work lobbying for additional protections and support for the WA music sector, and expanding our online hub to provide you relevant and up-to-date information and resources.
Last week, WAM met with a group of live music venue owners, operators and programmers to discuss their needs, and the needs extended across music business operators working out of premises. As a result of this meeting, WAM have written to state government representatives;
Planning Minister, Hon Rita Saffioti, requesting a fast-tracking of the Special Entertainment Precinct Legislation, with an opportunity provided for our community to feed into the outlined legislation prior to expedition. This feedback is crucial to further the outcomes for venues and rehearsal spaces, plus ensuring protection of music business premises from ‘carpetbagging’ (courtesy John Carey MLA).
Treasurer, Hon Ben Wyatt, requesting a suspension of all government fees and charges until these businesses are able to operate without restriction. This includes the waiving of any future re-payments for that period of time.
Hon Dave Templeman, in his capacity as Minister for Local Government, to obligate local governments to similarly suspend their fees, charges and waive deferred payments for music businesses.
Our website is hosting the COVID-19 Resource Hub containing the information and resources, filtered by relevance, to provide you support during this time. Our Sound Check Series is commencing this week, with the weekly webinars providing information and tips from the experts on topics such as mental health, business accounting, and monetising streaming.
