WA Music Awards 2015 winners announced!

5 Nov

As part of the 2015 WAM Festival presented by Alcohol. Think Again, leading WA acts, industry leaders and VIPs packed out the 2015 WA Music Awards, presented by TheMusic.com.au. Celebrating Western Australia’s musical depth, the annual prestigious dose of local love was administered in style at Jack Rabbit Slim’s.

Excluding related Craft category wins, the world-conquering Tame Impala chalked up 4 wins out of their 6 nominations, leading the pack by taking out Best Album, Most Popular Act, Most Popular Live Act and Most Popular Music Video. Other multi-award winning acts on the night included Tired Lion (Best Rock Act and Best EP), Methyl Ethel (Best Pop Act and Best Single) and KUČKA (Best Electronic Act and Best Experimental Act), all with two awards apiece.

Andrew Ryan walked away with his second Golden WAMi, after another huge year of growth for his Cool Perth Nights empire. Taking out the coveted Media Award was Bob Gordon for his contributions at X-Press Magazine. Perth’s punters once again voted St Jerome’s Laneway Festival their favourite Music Event of the Year for three successive years now, and beloved Freo venue Mojos pulled the Most Popular Venue for the second year in a row in the Public Voted categories. Best Label went to Tame Impala and Pond’s home, Spinning Top, whilst the Management Award went to Jacob Snell, manager of a heap of acts including WAMi winners Methyl Ethel and Tired Lion. 2015’s Hall of Fame inductees were also celebrated at the WA Music Awards ceremony, with Helen Matthews and Paul Sloan joining the list of legends – both integral to shaping the thriving musical landscape of WA!

Invited again to bring his incomparable MCing craziness to the event, Tomàs Ford was on hosting / scaring / bewildering / mind-blowing duties, joined in MCing by special industry guests from around the country, all due to speak at the WA Music Conference this Friday and Saturday. The 22nd annual awards also featured live performances from Jacob Diamond, Joni In The Moon and Gina Williams & Guy Ghouse, who all had to jump back on the stage as they scooped up one award each.

The WAM Festival presented by Alcohol. Think Again live festivities kick on with 14 Friday Showcases packing WA’s finest into venues all over Perth, Northbridge, Fremantle and the central metro areas; the 9-venue Saturday Spectacular & Block Party featuring 80+ acts all for free; and the 15-act strong Sunday Best showcasing 15 acts for the ultimate free festival finisher!
