SWAM guide to record WA involvement at Music Matters

28 Apr

With WAM Members getting huge discounts to Music Matters Live 2015, and the recent announcement of the WA Acts and Managers who have been selected to participate in this four day festival in Singapore happening Wednesday 20 – Saturday 23 May, we thought we would take a look at what to expect from WA’s record-breaking involvement at the festival.

SWAM:MO – Managers

The Singapore-West Australian Music Exchange: Managers Opportunity aka SWAM:MO is an extension of the SWAM initiative, which since 2013 has provided showcasing and networking opportunities for numerous WA and Singaporean acts, focusing on creating inroads into the increasingly important Asian music market. SWAM:MO aims to build on the successes of previous SWAM exchanges by providing WA managers free access to high profile networking and professional development opportunities at Music Matters, which is Asia’s highest profile music export event, and one of the world’s biggest.

Bios and briefs of selected managers:

JACOB SNELL: In 2008, Jacob Snell commenced employment with Perth-based promoter, booking agency and management company, Monster Management. Taking on a managerial role for Split Seconds and Boom! Bap! Pow! in 2009, in 2012 the roster expanded to include Stillwater Giants, followed by Methyl Ethel and Tired Lion in 2014. Having been nominated for the WAM Management Award each year since 2011, Jacob has taken part in a number of workshops for management in the music industry and is currently the WA representative for the AAM (Association of Artist Managers).

ALEX PAIOFF: Alex Paioff has founded Metric Promotions, Pilerats and Pilerats Records, as well as music festivals Wonderland, Circo and Castaway, and numerous club events. Having managed Stillwater Giants and Shy Panther, Alex is currently managing Sable, who have taken the internet and radio by storm in the past 14 months. He toured the country nationally three times in 2014 as well as playing Splendour in the Grass. Alex has also grown Sable’s Soundcloud page from 1k to 24k, and Facebook from 1.5k to 20k in the space of 14 months.

XANTHEA O’CONNOR: Currently managing bands Joni In The Moon and Golden String, and having managed David Craft from 2013-2014, Xanthea also has a history of booking tours for Perth musicians Taski, Fox Cat Rabbit, and Louis Inglis. Xanthea is currently the music booker for popular, regular and local spoken word and music event “Ships In The Night”. As well as coordinating Sam Buckingham’s National house concert tours since 2012, she has been coordinator of “Laundry Nights,” and was selected for WAM’s debut Higher Ground management course last year.

SWAM – Acts

Growing rapidly in size and international prestige, Music Matters Live is the festival in Asia to participate in for international, emerging bands looking to meet with the Asian and international music industry. Part of the award-winning All That Matters conference series that attracts global entertainment executives to Singapore, 2014’s event hosted more than 70 bands from 20 countries over the week. In 2015, music lovers should look out for over 80 bands to hit venues across the Lion City and, as part of WAM’s ongoing SWAM commitments, 2015’s festival will see a record-breaking number of WA acts showcasing, as below.
