Wheatbelt Touring Circuit announces first 2015 shows

14 Jan

In partnership with RAC and with support from Hertz, WAM is proud to announce its 2015 Wheatbelt Touring Circuit, an extension of the successful 2012 pilot program. This WAM regional touring initiative takes West Australian acts on a paid journey through the Wheatbelt, beginning in February and running monthly through til November 2015. The touring circuit combines performances at multiple community recreation and leisure complexes, clubs and traditional pub venues throughout the region, seeing leading acts from WA’s metro areas combining with a vast array of talented upcoming and established acts from the Wheatbelt.

Kicking off the touring circuit’s program with a bang will be 2014’s five-time WA Music Award winners Timothy Nelson & The Infidels, 2013’s Telstra Road to Discovery winner Helen Shanahan, plus local support from Georgie Sadler, Girl York and Tom O’Brien & Russell Gooley (some of which you can find tunes on WAM’s Sounds Of The Wheatbelt). With more acts like good time professionals Boom! Bap! Pow! and the quick rising alt-country outfit Ralway Bell slated to headline in the autumn months, the Wheatbelt region can expect to discover some of WA’s – and the Wheatbelt’s – finest performers throughout 2015!

This model is based on feedback received from 2012’s pilot project, WAM’s diverse past touring projects, WAM’s Regional Roundtable members and the Regional Touring Reference Group. A large number of acts also answered our call for interest, this project is geared towards establishing financially viable regional tour circuits for acts, and assisting them in gaining vital new connections with Wheatbelt music networks and audiences. Each tour will see metro-based acts combining with local Wheatbelt artists for shows in different towns on Friday and Saturday nights, with Sunday lunchtime showcases at the Quindanning Inne on the third full weekend of each month.

Of this partnership between RAC and WAM, the RAC’s Carina Lauder said, “RAC is pleased to be partnering with WAM once again to raise awareness of road safety in the Wheatbelt. The Wheatbelt region continues to be overrepresented in WA’s fatality rate, and in 2014 was four times the State average. RAC believes action is needed to stop local deaths on local roads.”
