Delivering programs to support a thriving WA music sector

Western Australia already has an established reputation for producing exceptional and unique world-class contemporary music artists. WAM harnesses this potential by creating increased opportunities for WA contemporary music to be created and consumed. WAM is an advocate for the cultural, economic and social benefits of a supported music scene, with our long-term goal being for contemporary music to be recognised as a leading cultural identifier for Western Australia. Our diverse programs, events and actions are all committed to doing this.

INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT MORE
Providing opportunities for members of the WA music sector to develop their skills and reach their career or music goals has long been a focus of WAM’s mission. Through creating pathways for industry connections, developing accessible resources, and delivering relevant workshops and learning activities, we can support an engaged and flourishing sector.

AUDIENCES & ENGAGEMENT
Building strong audiences for WA artists and their music is fundamental to growth and sustainability of the sector. A wide-spread love of local music fosters a culture where the value of WA artists is not only recognised, but celebrated and supported. Each year, WAM strives to grow this connection, creating more opportunities for the music and stories of artists across the state to be experienced by new and wider audiences.

YOUTH MORE
Empowering young people to discover, engage and create original music is a key component of WAM’s ongoing audience development activities. Providing today’s youth their first experience with local music and live performances opens-up an exciting world of creativity and community, with research indicating early exposure can instil a lifelong appreciation and love. WAM’s youth programs aim to nurture these emerging artists and audiences to build a strong and sustainable future for the WA music sector.

MUSIC IN THE REGIONS MORE
WA is Australia’s largest state, and WAM is committed to nurturing and elevating the original music emerging from all corners. With an ongoing mission to engage artists and communities in regional and remote locations, WAM integrates regional components across all industry and audience development activities, in addition to continuing their targeted regional recording program.

ADVOCACY
WAM recognises that WA artists and the industry that supports them is a vital component of our state’s social, cultural and economic fabric. Through ongoing consultation with our membership and local industry, WAM advocates for the needs of the WA sector to key stakeholders and government bodies. A proud member of AMIN and working closely with key national bodies, WAM engages on a state, national and international level.
