WAMFest wins ‘Live Event of the Year’ in the National Live Music Awards – THANKS!

8 Dec

A HUGE thank you from everyone at WAM for helping make last year’s WAMFest an award-winning experience… Yep, last night at eight simultaneous events around Australia, the finest live musicians, venues, events and industry organisations were awarded and recognised at the 2017 National Live Music Awards, and we’re beyond thankful for everyone’s support in helping us take out the award for Live Event of the Year!

Presented by Drug Aware and proudly supported by City of Perth and Lotterywest, this award really goes to all the incredible acts, our 2016 Coordinator Greg Sanders, partners, sponsors, venues, bookers, managers, interns, music industry heads and – most importantly – fans of live music that helped the fest champion WA music – THANK YOU!!!

WAM’s CEO Mike Harris on the win: “We’re thrilled to win the NLMA for best live event at the 2017 NLMAs. It is a recognition of the good work of WAM, but also, and more importantly, it is a recognition of the quality and depth of WA music and its importance in all of our lives.”

54 awards were handed out around the county, supported by 30 live performances, and the show at Mojo’s Bar saw the following winners:

Live Act of the Year: POW! Negro
Live Voice of the Year: Stella Donnelly
Live Venue presented by Oztix: The Bird
Live Event of the Year: WAMFest

Also a big congrats to this year’s leading WAMAwards winner and WAMFest Lot Party highlight Stella Donnelly, who won the national public voted award for Best Live Voice!

On the awards, Heath said, “What an incredible night! The mix of well established and up-and-coming winners on this list bodes well for the health of Australia’s live industry. I don’t think it’s ever looked better than it does right now. Congratulations to all the winners and we look forward to rewarding a future batch of live stars at the next awards.”
