WAMCon reveals first speakers and new events, as early bird tix go on sale
FIRST SPEAKERS REVEALED AS EARLY BIRD TIX GO ON SALE
WAMFest presented by Drug Aware returns in 2017 with a ridiculously packed program of WA talent awaiting discovery, which we can’t wait to announce soon. First though, we’re excited to launch WAMFest’s peak music industry advancing event; the WAMCon music conference, Friday 3 – Saturday 4 November 2017. The ultimate platform to help the music industry – from beginners to pros – navigate their way outta the jungle and into success city, 2017’s programming expands to include all new masterclass and Burgers & Bookers sessions, further enhancing its must-attend status.
To coincide with new early bird ticketing tiers to take advantage of if you’re quick, WAMCon’s sneaking a few cats outta the speaker bag, revealing the first four speakers out of what will be an all-star cast of 40+ music industry professionals ready to set your music career on fire. Get ready to pounce on opportunities with:
► Keith Harris OBE (London, UK) – CV highlights include being the GM of Motown (working with Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Rick James & more), driving promo, A&R etc for EMI and Transatlantic Records, managing high profile artists (incl. still as the long-time manager of Stevie Wonder), just parts of the reasons Harris was awarded an OBE for his services to the music industry.
► Sean Bohrman (US) – Co-Founder of Burger Records, responsible for over 500 releases from the likes of The Black Lips, Brian Jonestown Massacre, King Khan, Thee Oh Sees & Ty Segall, plus the Burgerama Music Festival and promotional campaign genius of ‘Burger Revolution’.
► Helen Marcou (VIC) – Co-Founder of the Save Live Australia’s Music (SLAM) movement and consultant to government on matters of live music policy and sexual assault of women in venues, her efforts have helped shape Australian music culture, recently seeing her a Victorian Honour Roll for Women inductee.
► Nick Findlay (NSW) – Recently taking over the reins from previous AMID Power 50 #1 ‘Most powerful person in Australian music industry’ Richard Kingsmill, Nick’s the new Music Director at triple j. Wielding new powers for good, he’ll be bringing his insatiable appetite for new music, hungry for WA discoveries.
With support from the Perth Theatre Trust, WAMCon 2017 will wrap its vines around the State Theatre Centre of WA, enjoying the state-of-the-art facilities that are both an architectural landmark and the perfect place to absorb knowledge. Smack bang in the centre of Northbridge’s WAMFest action, this dynamic environment will be filled with music industry legends from around Australia and beyond, primed to captivate and inspire band members, producers, managers, students, industry professionals, bookers, soundies and music fans.
Having to turn away those too slow to pick up Early Bird WAMCon tickets the last few years, the QuayNote Boat Party returns, an unmissable highlight of WAMCon. The boat that rocks will give revellers a place to let their hair down and swing between industry royalty, and can only be secured with an Early Bird ticket. And not including all the game-changing sessions, speakers, panels and masterclasses, the value of extras and exclusive opportunities alone are worth more than the ticket prices!
