WAM Teams Up With The Bird For Songwriting Talks With Bob Gordon, Timothy Nelson & Jamilla

With applications to Song of the Year 2020 presented by Act-Belong-Commit now open, WAM has teamed up with the Bird to present a special songwriting edition of Bird Talks with Bob Gordon, featuring award-winning WA songwriters and musicians Timothy Nelson and Jamilla.

Join us for an intimate evening at The Bird on Tuesday 10 March, featuring legendary music journalist and interviewer, Bob Gordon, in relaxed discussion with two previous Song of the Year winners Timothy Nelson and Jamilla. The guests will share their creative process, tips and advice, and stories of songwriting and the music industry. The free event provides an informative and relaxed opportunity to tune up your song-writing skills and hear from the experts ahead of Song of the Year.

bob gordonBob Gordon has been working in the Perth music industry for decades. He is best known as Managing Editor of X-Press Magazine, and works as a freelance writer, having written various pieces for Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Q Magazine, CMJ Music Report, Music Feed, Scenestr and his local website, Around the Sound. Over the years he has interviewed many bands and has established himself as a legend in rock journalism in Perth.

timothy nelsonTimothy Nelson has established himself over the past decade as a premier songwriter in Perth. He is a multi-award winner, having won multiple WAMI’s and WAM’s Song of the Year on several occasions. Timothy’s career has twisted and turned through various music styles as he has fronted and performed with many bands over the years.

jamillaJamilla is a Perth-based, self-produced, neo-soul/ RnB artist who has established a name for herself in a relatively short period of time. Her 2018 album ‘Beautiful’ featured national airplay on Triple J and community radio. Since then, Jamilla has worked and performed alonside multiple Australian household names, including Stella Donnelly, Abbe May, Alex the Astronaut, Mojo Juju and Sex on Toast to name a few. She is both a WAM Award and Song of the Year winner.
