The blues is music that traveled on trains and steamboats from the Mississippi Delta to the neon streets of Memphis, Chicago and St. Louis. For WAM Member MattyTWall – a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and bandleader – it is the supernatural sound that crossed the ocean to Perth, to ignite his imagination and give power to his art. A young man with an old soul: Matty is connected to music with a wealth of history as he distills a diversity of genres into his own blues-influenced soul, jazz and rock signature.

2018 was an incredible year for MattyTWall with multiple international successes. It was announced that his song ‘Walk Out The Door’ was a semi-finalist in the Blues category of the International Songwriting Competition, as well as ‘Sophia’s Strut’ in the Instrumental category. An annual song contest whose mission is to provide the opportunity for both aspiring and established songwriters to have their songs heard in a professional, international arena, the International Songwriting Competition sees heavyweights all over the world entering, and making it as a semi-finalist is a huge achievement. Last year also saw MattyTWall’s recent album Sidewinder listed as one of the top Blues/Rock albums internationally, it hit, by sub-genre, #1 in the USA, was listed in the number one spot on the Australian Blues Airplay Chats, and three tracks from the album made it into the Top 100 charts in the in the Netherlands.

MattyTWallNot only has MattyTWall been kicking goals with his latest album but he also recently snagged the role as the Australian Blues Editorialist for the renowned British publication Blues Matters; a magazine that specialises in Blues music from all over the world and is now a double inductee into the Blues Hall of Fame.

Congratulations Matty on such a huge year, everyone at WAM is excited to see what happens next!
