Perth songwriting duo The Opposite Kids have written global music star Dido’s new single Give You Up. The track, released via BMG last week, is the leading song from Dido’s first album in five years, Still On My Mind.

The empowering break-up ballad was co-written by the Western Australian songwriting team, made up of Rob Agostini and Denny Thakrar.

Following the album’s release, the multi-platinum singer plans to embark on her first world tour in 15 years to showcase the new album, alongside her impressive back catalogue.

“Dido is a long-established artist with a solid fan base. Considering the response so far, we are predicting big things. It’s received a lot of international coverage including Rolling Stone and Billboard. It’s too early to see how it’s charting, but given Dido’s global appeal obviously, we’d love to see it win a Grammy,” Rob and Denny commented.

The track was written four years ago alongside UK-based songwriters Si Hulbert and Dee Adam and involved numerous trips to London over a year-long period.

“I co-wrote this tune in London after a difficult break-up of my own which no doubt, found its way into this song,” said Rob.

“We had no idea it would end up in the hands of one of my favourite artists of all time, no one could have sung the story better than Dido, her voice is sounding better than ever.”

Rob is currently based in Carlisle running Soundbaker Studios, one of Perth’s premier recording and production spaces, and has recently released an EP under the moniker GIVR. Denny is currently living in Mumbai writing songs for Bollywood productions. The duo plan to make more trips to the UK to connect with artists and labels.

They’ve have been working in the music industry together for over 10 years and are building quite the rap sheet, having previously lended their writing talents to work with Georgia Ku (Dua Lipa, Skrillex, Martin Garrix), Tim Kellet (Simply Red), Richard Judge (Robin Schulz), Si Hulbert (Ed Sheeran, Craig David), and Starley (Call On Me).
