Next ‘Demos from’ Regional Recording Project Announced | Calling Artists from Peel!
There’s no denying the strong contribution the Peel region has made to Western Australia’s contemporary music scene. Fairbridge Festival celebrates its 28th year in 2020, Pinjarra’s John Butler’s multi-award winning career, and the Mandurah Estuary adorning the cover of The Triffid’s lauded album ‘Born Sandy Devotional’ provide a snapshot of the region’s special place in the landscape of West Australian music.
Following recent projects in The Wheatbelt and Kimberley, West Australian Music (WAM) is excited to announce the next Demos from regional recording project and compilation will be showcasing artists from the Peel region. WAM is on the lookout for Peel songwriters, acts and bands of any level, age, and genre to register their interest before January 31, 2020.
The Demos from Peel recording project will provide 10 Peel artists the incredible opportunity to record an original song with some of WA’s best producers including; Matt Gio (Rada Studios) and Dan Carroll (Rada Studios), at a pop-up studio in an iconic Peel location this March. The final compilation will be released in 2020 on CD and digital streaming platforms and serviced to radio throughout WA and the country.
Demos from Peel forms the third of nine regional projects set to record up to 90 regional artists across WA’s nine regions in the next three years. So far, WAM’s regional recording projects have uncovered 110 songs that have received radio airplay across the country, been distributed on over 20 000 compilation CDs and garnered over 100,000 plays on streaming platforms. The previous compilations, Demos from The Wheatbelt and Demos from the Northern Goldfields can be heard here. A deeper dive into WAM’s regional recording history can be found here.
Songwriters/acts must register their interest to be part of the project before Friday 31 January 2020 by completing the following online form: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/demosfrompeel
