New live music venue Jack Rabbit Slim’s to open

Following the rough patch that the WA music scene has had due to closures of some much loved live music venues, there is new hope on the Western horizon. Possibly inspired by the diner in the famous Pulp Fiction scene, in which John Travolta literally reinvents dancing, Jack Rabbit Slim’s will be replacing Parker, and (milk)shaking things up.

Opening its doors late July, the venue will offer a combination of all the best parts of a small bar coupled with a fully functioning multi-purpose gig venue unlike anything Perth has ever seen before. A late night music diner with 1950’s diner inspired fit-out, incorporating booths, tables and retro-style arcade game machines with alcoholic milkshakes and flavoured French fries available until 5am. Slim’s will be a place to meet with friends and catch up on the week just gone, over delicious drinks and a bowl of fries, before migrating over to the dancefloor to shake it off late into the night. Over 20 live original music shows – including international acts – have already been booked by Metric Events at JR Slims, with the first month of line-ups to be announced in a couple of weeks’ time.

Said Metric Events Director Luke Whelan, “We all call Perth home and are proud of what our city represents. There is a fantastic music and cultural scene here that’s exploding, but a distinct lack of venues built with the purpose of live music in Perth, to facilitate this positive growth. Slim’s will provide our Perth music-loving community with a permanent and reliable music venue that can showcase local talent and service touring artists, with a cross-section of both bands and electronic acts being programmed. We’re going a step further, offering awesome food and great beverage options in a comfortable, versatile environment.”

JR Slims is poised to be a huge hit in the very good hands of Metric Events, who have an excellent reputation in the WA nightclub industry, widely respected for their role as a forward-thinking promotions entity that consistently deliver a high-standard of contemporary Australian and local club music acts to WA music-lovers. By placing the emphasis on the clubgoers’ entire evening’s experience beyond the booked act, Metric have built a loyal extended family of followers, who attend their events – from weekly nights to festivals such as Wonderland, CIRCO and Castaway.
