Girls Rock WA! heads to Kalgoorlie-Boulder this July!
WAM, in partnership with Artgold, is excited to announce that Girls Rock! WA is heading to Kalgoorlie next month!
The Girls Rock! program, which originated in the US and is now practised successfully around the globe, tackles the issue of gender imbalance in the music industry with a focus on the key areas of creativity, positivity, community and empowerment. It includes workshops, live performances and fun activities designed to empower and inspire aspiring young female, trans, and non-binary musicians.
Girls Rock! WA was established by WAM in January 2019 under the direction of WAM Audience Development Officer and Girls Rock! WA Co-ordinator, Em Burrows. The program continues with the support of WAM’s core funding partners Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest and APRA AMCOS plus funding from the Contemporary Music Fund to deliver Girls Rock! over 4 years.
The sixth instalment of the Girls Rock! WA program will be held in Kalgoorlie over the weekend of July 24th and 25th at the Goldfields Arts Centre. This is the first instalment to be held in a regional area of WA. The weekend will include workshops on topics such as identity, song writing and improvisation. Guest presenters will include musicians Hannah Smillie (The Psychotic Reactions) and Sara Salt (Nervous). The program is free for participants thanks to the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
