Forrest LIVE | WAMFest’s Launch Party + 3 Days of Family Fun

5 Oct

WAMFest is launching this year with Forrest LIVE –  a FREE, ALL-AGES party at Forrest Chase with 3 days of music + activities for the whole family!

This year, WAM is teaming up with Forrest Chase to launch WAMFest presented by Act-Belong-Commit at the Forrest LIVE celebrations on Friday October 11.

This FREEALL-AGES event will be a feast of music, activities and entertainment which will continue over the weekend until Sunday 13th of October at Forrest Chase, Forrest Place and the Murray St Mall.

WAM have hand-picked 7 incredible WA acts to take-over the main stage and show you just what WA music has to offer. Check them out below:

Spacey Jane

Spacey Jane consists of Caleb, Kieran, Ashton and Peppa who came together through blooming friendships and lucky connections. They started jamming together and kicked off their musical journey with a debut gig in Caleb’s dad’s backyard.

They quickly went from backyards to bright lights in a short matter of time, sharing the stage with the likes of Car Seat Headrest, Alex Lahey, The Jungle Giants, British India, Olympia and The Stems, along with festival appearances at Wave Rock Weekender, Gizzfest 2017, Falls Downtown 2018 and WA Day’s SOTA Festival.

GAZEY

Synth-pop outfit GAZEY have been absolutely killing the scene with a collection of quick-firing demos and live shows. The five-strong group have blossomed into favourites among the Perth scene, proving time and time again that they’re worth all of the hype. Their music draws comparisons to dance music pioneers like New Order and the synth-driven rise of the 80s, taking old-school influences and bringing them forward to 2019.

Downsyde

Formed in 1996 for a school talent competition, Downsyde kicked open the doors for West Australian hip hop artists as well as being early pioneers on the national scene. Since then they’ve released four acclaimed albums, won a stack of awards, had charting albums and singles and toured Australia and the world numerous times, building up a legion of fans across the globe. You won’t want to miss them!

The Money War

The Money War are back with their new single ‘Life Is Better In Dreams’, just three months after the release of their debut album ‘Home’. The track was inspired by a recent trip back to Ollivierre’s homeland; the Caribbean island of Bequia. The result was a creative period where Ollivierre and Pepper penned an album worth of new songs.

Since their formation in 2015, their success has seen them touring nationally with the likes of Meg Mac, Dope Lemon, Holy Holy, Neil Finn, and playing festivals both at home and abroad (Southbound, FOTSUN, SXSW). They’ve amassed over a million streams and multiple playlist adds on Spotify, secured airplay on radio stations across the globe including BBC6 (UK), KCRW (USA), NPR (USA) and cracked college radio charts in the US. In Australia, multiple singles received airplay on RTR, FBi, 4zzz and Double J, and “Recall” went on to be Triple J’s 5th most played track of 2017.

Siobhan Cotchin

West Australian folk/pop singer songwriter Siobhan Cotchin, has a writing style akin to the effortless musing of Joni Mitchell, laced with inspiration drawn from Bob Dylan. Siobhan’s jangly luminous melodies hover over her story telling lyrics, providing the essential pop writing element that has resulted in many songwriting accolades. Siobhan’s been nominated for the WAM Song of the Year; Winner of Fairbridge & Nannup Music Festival’s – Emerging Artist Award, and song of the year with local youth radio station ‘Pirate FM'; Siobhan is an artist to watch.

Kissinger Kruz

Kissinger Kruz is the collaborative hip hop effort of Cruz Patterson and Henry Kissinger hailing from Fremantle in WA. Drawing influence from artists such as MF Doom and J Dilla, they’re owning the hip hop scene – having been a part of several collaborative projects around Perth and at different venues.

Daisy Laing (Girls Rock! WA)

Daisy Laing are an all-girl rock band that formed early this year – already gigging at Mojo’s and Freo Social where they’ve performed original tunes. They all met at the Girls Rock! WA workshop, and since then a bass and an electric guitarist have joined. In the nature of the workshop, their music is rock, but they draw inspiration from blues, jazz and indie pop. You won’t want to miss these up-and-comers!
