Yagan Square Ampitheatre

Audience: All-ages

WAM has started programming entertainment every Wednesday evening over six weeks to celebrate the opening of Yagan Square and present Beats & Bites. Get along to the Yagan Square Amphitheater every Wednesday during March and early April from 5pm-9pm and catch some great bands and beats while you eat your bites!

Performing this week are Formidable Vegetable Sound System, Randa And The Soul Kingdom, Duende Indalo and DJ – Nicole Filev.

The Yagan Square precinct boasts a Market Hall of international cuisine and local produce, digital tower and canopy, amphitheatre, children’s playscape and a new inner city mall connecting William Street from the CBD to Northbridge. The precinct design reflects Aboriginal stories and the unique Western Australian landscape. In collaboration with the Whadjuk Working Party, the project team has created a unique destination that will strengthen the local and international understanding of Aboriginal culture.

Formidable Vegetable Sound System
Possibly the only band to promote the joys of vegetable gardening and compost through dance music, Formidable Vegetable Sound System are the world’s most successful experiment in ecological electro-funk-swing. With epic live shows consisting of wonky electronic beets, ukulele quirk, soaring strings and hyperactive horns, the band has only one goal: to pound simple solutions for sustainability deep into your consciousness in the funkiest way possible.

Randa And The Soul Kingdom
Randa & The Soul Kingdom formed out of a common desire to write and perform in an authentic pledge to their funk/soul roots. A six piece band, consisting of trumpet, sax, drums, guitar, bass and vocals, they imbue a live, classic funk sound with a dynamic fresh edge they can safely call their own striking a balance between talented musicianship and emotional content.

Duende Indalo
Inspired by the likes of Dhafer Youssef, Antonio Forcione and bass guitar mastery reminiscent of Jaco Pastorius, instrumental genre crossing musicians Duende Indalo play an eclectic mix of world music fusing together Flamenco, Jazz, Middle Eastern and ambient sounds to create something wholly unique. Duende Indalo play with virtuosic rigor to create music that will transport you to every corner of the globe.

Blue Child Collective
Fronted by Dan White, an enthusiastic collaborator, multi-instrumentalist and fingerstyle artisan conjuring soundscapes spanning raging rhythmic grooves to bluesy licks and ethereal trips, this is music with purpose. From his thought-provoking lyrics to the Collective’s engaging live performances, Blue Child Collective reminds us that we’re all, in essence, children of this blue planet and connected in our existence; one and the same.

Billy Narrier
Billy Narrier has one of the most unique vocal characteristics that is instantly recognisable – it feels like you’ve heard him before. Unlikely as you’ll mostly find him playing in the backyard for family and friends. Billy and his family band had previously won awards at the Meekatharra Battle of The Bands in 2008.

DJ – Nicole Filev
All DJ’s performing at Yagan Square are members of WOMPP (Women of Music Production Perth). WOMPP is a platform for female, transgender and non-binary music makers to share and discuss music production.
