The Yagan Square precinct boasts a Market Hall of international cuisine and local produce, digital tower and canopy, amphitheatre, children’s playscape and a new inner city mall connecting William Street from the CBD to Northbridge. The precinct design reflects Aboriginal stories and the unique Western Australian landscape. In collaboration with the Whadjuk Working Party, the project team has created a unique destination that will strengthen the local and international understanding of Aboriginal culture.
WEEK 3 – Wednesday March 21
DJ – Lana
Horseshoe Lane Stage
Alt-folk oddity Jacob Diamond sings bold songs about love and death. After years in Perth’s songwriting underground, Diamond has recently emerged as one of the foremost singer-songwriters in the west, furnished with huge melodies and incisive lyrics. He pens intricate, genre-bent bangers taking all the best bits from a box of 60’s compilation CDs, memories of a crowded Catholic childhood, Les Miserables and one reckless detour into jazz-study.
Tanya Ransom pens songs that are emotionally revealing in a style that expresses both strength and fragility. Whether it be performing with her band Tanya Ransom and The Saltwater Bandits or a one woman show yielding a guitar and ukulele, she’ll draw in her audience with a warm embracing delivery, depth and a touch of melancholy and captivate them with her presence.
Billy Narrier has one of the most unique vocal characteristics that is instantly recognisable – it feels like you’ve heard him before. Unlikely as you’ll mostly find him playing in the backyard for family and friends. Billy and his family band had previously won awards at the Meekatharra Battle of The Bands in 2008.
DJ – Lana
All DJ’s performing at Yagan Square are members of WOMPP (Women of Music Production Perth). WOMPP is a platform for female, transgender and non-binary music makers to share and discuss music production.
Mitchell Ballardin is a solo guitarist/vocalist who attends John Curtin College of the Arts. He has a mature and unique indie pop/roots/folk sound and has been busking around Perth, performing at Open Mic Nights, youth festivals and more.
Tashi is a multi-instrumentalist and songstress, her music is the type that makes you want to get up and clean the house, with its notoriously addictive hooks and original style of alt-pop/rock/reggae. Named “crowd favourite” at Hidden Treasures Festival 2013, Tashi has also been described as a young performer with the world at her feet.
