In partnership with RAC and with support from Hertz, WAM’s 2015 Wheatbelt Touring Circuit keeps going from strength to strength, with tour #3 reaching hundreds of Wheatbelt locals and travellers, showcasing Boom! Bap! Pow!, Pete Byfield, Erin Pope, Brenden Nichols and Hayden McGlinn’s talents.

Next up is Fremantle folk-rock legends The Justin Walshe Folk Machine (whose second album was acclaimed by The Dwarf as “the next chapter in Australian folk”) and alternative folk and country outfit Galloping Foxleys (having just released their debut EP to a sold-out room at Mojo’s Bar). Wheatbelt locals Lauren Arthur, John Read and more soon-to-be-announced will be joining them at various dates including Quairading Hotel, Grass Valley Tavern and Quindanning Inne, Fri 15 to Sun May 17.
The Wheatbelt Touring Circuit is a rare program that sees free entry performances at multiple community recreation and leisure complexes, clubs and traditional pub venues throughout the Wheatbelt region, seeing leading acts from WA’s metro areas combining with a vast array of talented upcoming and established acts from the Wheatbelt. A key driver of this tour is raising awareness of the Wheatbelt region’s road safety issues. WAM is proud to enter into this partnership with RAC as we recognise and support their commitment to increasing road safety awareness and reducing serious crashes in the region.

Of this partnership, the RAC’s Carina Lauder said, “In 2014 the Wheatbelt road fatality rate was 11 times the Perth metropolitan rate, six times the state rate, and twice nearby regions. We all have a role to play in addressing the Wheatbelt’s poor road safety record and real change starts with the individual, and must be supported by the community as a whole. Too many loved ones are dying or being seriously injured on our roads. We need to talk about the Wheatbelt.”

THE JUSTIN WALSHE FOLK MACHINE: The Justin Walshe Folk Machine from Fremantle take you on a rollicking journey through the vast reaches of Australia’s past on the back of blistering musicianship with tales of whisky, shipwrecks and hapless desert-bound explorers. A formidable and grand voice in Australian folk-rock, they have been nominated for a number of WA Music Awards and WAM Song of the Year Awards throughout their successful career.

GALLOPING FOXLEYS: Shane Corry is the front man and songwriter of Fremantle band Galloping Foxleys. Their alternative folk and country stylings have attracted a lot of attention in the last six months, playing the WA Circus Festival, Beerfest and George Street Festival, as well as coming second in the Breakthrough To Blues ‘n’ Roots competition in March. A wide range of artists influence Shane’s songwriting, drawing inspiration from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Father John Misty and Peter Bibby. Catch him and a stripped back band playing all the Foxley favourites.

LAUREN ARTHUR: Northern singer-songwriter Lauren Arthur is currently studying contemporary music at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). She is preparing for the release of her debut album, having already recorded ten tracks. Lauren has performed many gigs around WA including supporting east coast-based four- piece rock band Split Seconds.
