THE CHINA BLUE EXPERIMENT: A Kalgoorlie-based blues/pop fusion act with wide-reaching influences, the band has been touring off the back of their second EP Insomnia to wide acclaim. Based around the lyrical musings of Darren Forster and the arrangements of jazz cat and Swiss pop groomed Gordon Cant, the band has performed live on radio all around WA, recently showcased at Kalgoorlie’s Sunset At The Soundshell to over 5,000 people, were finalists in the Inaugural Winter Blue Challenge and were selected to showcase at Singapore’s massive Beerfest Asia festival.
MATT CAL: Solo or with his unnamed band of eclectic heroes, Matt Cal is a witty, soulful songwriter with an engaging voice, shifting from soft husky tones to dark gravel in a breath of finger plucked melodies on acoustic guitars. Delivering a rich blend of grungy blues and roots with a healthy serving of lyrical magic, Matt weaves a tale of imagination, truth and heart. This WAM Song Of The Year winner is no stranger to the WA touring circuit, supporting the likes of Ash Grunwald, Blue Shaddy, Lloyd Spiegel and Morgan Bain.
HAYDEN MCGLINN: You might know Hayden for his WAM Song Of The Year nominated song Utes & Dogs or fronting The Mystery Bets 2000-2007, but now his solo career takes in country, folk, blues and rock’n’roll, played live with a mix of acoustic guitar, percussion and effects. Born and bred in the Wheatbelt, last year’s single Hold On reached a worldwide audience, and he has an EP due in late April.
ERIN POPE: From a family farm near Moorine Rock in the Eastern Wheatbelt, growing up listening to The Waifs, John Butler and Laura Marling has her laid back acoustic vibe. Recently she’s busked in Vietnam and performed pub cover songs to a group of monks on a Buddhist monastery rooftop in Nepal!
