The Perth International Jazz Festival (PIJF) makes its much anticipated return to the city for its fourth consecutive year, from Friday 3 June to Sunday 5 June 2016. Over 50 incredible jazz performances will take place across numerous exceptional venues throughout Perthfeaturing a blend of ticketed and free community events by a host of celebrated local, national and international jazz artists.
In a huge coup for West Australian jazz, Perth bass-extraordinaire Dane Alderson is the newest member to join Yellowjackets and will perform at PIJF as part of their international touring band, as well on their upcoming album.
In a first for the event, Cathedral Square will play host to a number of free performances on Saturday 4 June, including two special performances in St George’s Cathedral by Alex Da Costa & Graham Wood Trio (PER) and Christ McNulty (USA), who will perform her new orchestral album Eternal.
The festivals two headline acts will both perform at Jazz at Brookfield Place. Grammy-nominated ‘future soul’ quartet Hiataus Kaiyote (MEL) will play their blend of captivating lyricism and emotive soundscapes as the main attraction of Saturday’s performance, while Yellowjackets (USA), the undisputed legends of jazz fusion, will headline Sunday’s show.
Ticketed performances will play at Brookfield Place and The Ellington Jazz Club. Numerous FREE events will also be performed at Perth Cultural Centre, Cathedral Square, St George’s Cathedral and The Northbridge Piazza.
