Fremantle in winter is a time to discover the city’s hidden nooks and crannies, to settle in, rummage up some heartening food, sip steaming comics and swap tales and melodies by the hearth. 10 Nights in Port celebrates the way that the Fremantle community bands together and the city itself seems to draw us close during the cold months.
Over 10 wintry evenings, immerse yourself in a raft of contemporary music, theatre, visual arts, film and live performance with exciting events such as:
In it’s ninth year, Hidden Treasures treats WA music fans to an earful of Freo balladeers, freshly-minted local bands and some favourite heroes of the Port City Stage. Soak up the big sounds and stagecraft of Doctopus, Sydnee Carter, The Chevelles, Fuzz Toads, Denise Le Menice, Jacob Diamond and many more.
Celebrating the next wave of Fremantle talent and defending Fremantle’s reign as a hotbed of musical experimentation, countless new bands and an exporter of locals-made-good, Future Treasures readies the stage for some of the pluckiest young performers around. Soak up the witty lyrics and raw tunes of 2018 Triple J Unearthed artist Carla Geneve, who headlines this all-ages event and is joined on stage by a slew of local acts from Fremantle College, John Curtin alumni, Girls Rock WA bands and more.
Wowak is the enchanting musical result of a collaboration between four Noongar family groups and the Perth Symphony Orchestra. Noongar dance, song and story, both traditional and contemporary, have been woven together with classical instruments and composition to create a fresh, original evening of song. Wowak us composed by Rebecca Erin-Smith and draws on music from the Wadumbah, Middar, Kwarbah Djookian and Koolangka Kreate cultural groups.
