FREE MISS SESSION: A Songwriter’s Tale
Ticket Prices: FREE for WAM/APRA Members with RSVP, or $10 on the door
Taking place at The Rosemount Hotel (main room) Tuesday 8 September 6 – 7:30pm, APRA AMCOS and WAM are proud to present another installment of the 2015 Music Industry Sundowner Series (MISS), which will be focused on all things songwriting.
Songwriting is a craft, a process and a journey, but it can be difficult to know where to begin and if your writing is on the right path. Join our panel of internationally celebrated songwriters François Tétaz (via Skype) and Ricky Maymi, plus RTRFM presenter and songwriter extraordinaire Sarah Tout as moderator, as they provide invaluable insights into their approaches to songwriting. They’ll be offering sage advice on pitfalls to watch out for and invaluable tips to inspire and inform songwriters at any stage of their careers. With such internationally renowned talent, this is session not to be M.I.S.S.ed!
BIOS IN BRIEF:
Best known for co-producing Goyte’s Grammy Award-winning track Somebody That I Used to Know, François Tétaz has a remarkable body of songwriting work to his name, including writing film scores for Wolf Creek (2006) and The Square (2008); providing the soundtrack for visual artist Patricia Piccinni’s 2004 Venice Biennale installation; creating scores for choreographic works; and collaborating and co-writing with artists Kimbra, Bertie Blackman, Sally Seltman, Lior and Architecture in Helsinki. François has also been involved with mastering, mixing and producing side of the biz and has worked with a myriad of Australian and international artists.
A founding member of San Francisco psych rock band The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ricky Maymi has collaborated on numerous musical projects as a writer and guitarist gun-for-hire over the years, including with The Wild Swans, The Triffids, Steve Kilbey (The Church), The Imajinary Friends, plus many more. As a sometimes resident of West Australia, Ricky has also taken to production work and has produced a host of excellent WA artists such as Michael Savage, The Morning Night, Sonpsilo Circus and others.
When she’s not taking to the airwaves on RTRFM, Sarah is sharing her expert advice regarding all things broadcasting in her role as Training Coordinator at the station. Also gigging regularly around town with various projects such as Simone and Girlfunkle as well as her self titled solo project, Sarah’s indie folk stylings have been charming audiences since she first took to the stage. She brings a wealth of songwriting experience with her that she is always more than happy to impart.
