A MERRY MESSAGE FROM MIKE (HARRIS, WAM CEO)

2017 has been a massive year for WAM and this year Western Australia has again and again shown how well we make music here in the west. In some ways for WAM, 2017 has been a bit more cerebral, in that some key projects have come about from consideration of what constitutes the best future for WA music. This includes WAM’s Audience Development Plan (to be implemented in 2018, we envisage) and an in-depth study into gender equality and representation in the music sector; FairPlay.

Our core events got bigger and better, and exposed more music to more people; after all, that’s what it’s all about: the music. We look forward to greater investment by government into WA music and artists in 2018, courtesy of the now government’s pre-election promise. This money is much needed in a sector that is poorly supported, but yet delivers so much culturally, socially and economically to peoples’ lives.

A shout out to WAM staff and Board. In a world of very tight funds and resources, WAM people have gone above and beyond in terms of dedication and effort. I could not be more proud of all of you.

A massive thanks to our supporters, wishing all WAM members, partners, musicians, fans and anyone who has championed WA music a fun-filled/restful/full-on holiday period; whichever of these most appeals.

FESTIVE OFFICE HOURS
